The early catch and release trout season ended Sunday, April 29, and it ended with a Bang. Water conditions were nearly perfect and Hendricsons were plentiful. A few caddis were starting to show and it won’t be long before Sulphurs will be in the neighborhood. This week of closed fishing finds us preparing for more trout fishing, of course, but also getting our bass and panfish gear in working order for Saturday’s general fishing opener. Rain the last couple of days have pushed the river flows up a bit and they should be in great shape as we prepare for another busy season.
As a proper kick-off to another fishing season, we are offering 25% to 40% discounts on several Sage fly rods. Bass rods to Z-Axis, ZXL to 99 rods, we have some premium rods at some great prices to start your season. Call or email us for details on the models we have and the discounts for each.
Saturday, April 28 marked the first ever organized clean-up of the Namekagon River. We worked in conjunction with the National Park Service to organize a river cleanup from Hayward to Trego. 33 volunteers helped and we collected several boatloads of trash. Other sections of the river are on tap for clean-up as soon as we can organize it. The clean-up was a great way to spend a Saturday and the Namekagon seemed happier for our efforts.
Shine up your gear and get out and enjoy the fishing season, and, of course, the beautiful scenery that is Northern Wisconsin…Larry and Wendy
